Sir Hamish MacLeod
Played by: Jim Irving
Actor Bio
Hamish MacLeod was born in the village of Glenfinnan on the
shores of Loch Shiel. Hamish spent the early part of his life as a blacksmith.
He learned to fight with various weapons in skirmishes with other clans, being
larger than most of his opponents, he won all of the fights he was in.
At 15, young Hamish saved the life of his cousin Connor Macleod during a battle with rival Clan Fraser when Connors much larger opponent was about to decapitate him. Hamish attacked the other man with a blow of his war hammer ending the attack on Connor. This drew the two teens closer, becoming best friends as well as kin.
When Hamish was 18 years old he heard of the exploits of Sir William Wallace and went off to help Wallace in the fight for Scotland’s independence from England. Hamish saved Wallace at the Battle of Falkirk by protecting Wallace and sneaking him out of Falkirk before the English could capture him. During the battle Hamish took a blow to the eye losing sight in that eye. Wallace never forgot this sacrifice Hamish made for him and the two became friends. Unfortunately, even Hamish Macleod could not protect Wallace forever, the English captured Wallace and executed him. In memory of his fallen friend Hamish continued to fight for Scotland’s freedom, carrying the sword of Wallace into every battle. Nine years later, Hamish and the patriots of Scotland, starving and outnumbered, charged the fields at Bannockburn. They fought like warrior poets; they fought like Scotsman and won their freedom.
After The Battle of Bannockburn, Hamish returned to his village to find that his beloved cousin Connor had been accused of witchcraft. Connor's clansmen beat him and were prepared to burn him, but another cousin, Angus, persuaded them to exile Connor instead. Connor escaped with his life but was banished forever from his clan and birthplace. Hamish argued with clansmen over the banishment and vowed to find Connor and return him to his home.
So Hamish left his village to explore the world looking for Connor. Along the way he visited many lands and had many adventures. Traveling alone does not feed a large man who is used to grew up a farmer, so Hamish fell on hard times and by the time he reached England he was starving and took to the hills living off of the land the Highlander way. After all of the battles he had fought alongside Wallace, Hamish was distrustful of the English so he did not have much interaction with humans in this area. He swore that he would live there only until he got his strength up and then would continue his search for Connor. Due to his lack of human contact as well as his upbringing, Hamish had become, well shall we say uncultured… By this point he was more of an animal than a man. After a harsh English winter, Hamish was starving and near death when a guild of former crusader Knights came upon him.
The knights fed him and helped him get his strength back. Lord Jeffery saw that under the gruff exterior, Hamish was an honest, just man… not to mention a HELL OF A WARRIOR. The knights invited Hamish to accompany them on their adventures throughout the world, Hamish, feeling he owed them his life put aside his distrust for the English and agreed to join them, on one condition, that during their travels he be allowed to search for Connor. The Knight of Gore agreed and grew to be comrades and friends… Nay brothers to Hamish (much the way Connor had been).
Lord Jeffery in recognition of Hamish's deeds as a Soldier of Gore eventually knighted him. Sir Hamish continued to fight as a Knight of Gore. After the loss of Sir Branden and Sir Michael in battle at Silver Kingdom, Sir Hamish became Lord Jeffery's first knight. They continued to fight side by side for just causes. Although he is now a Knight of Gore, Hamish has never given up the hope of one day being reunited with his beloved cousin, Connor.
